Hurricane Ida has gained strength off the coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and appears to be on a path towards the US. Hurricane Ida, which claimed the lives of 130 people in El Salvador, has been classified as a Category-2 storm and appears to be moving through the Gulf of Mexico where storm watchers expect it to weaken to a tropical storm again by Monday night southeast of New Orleans.  Hurricane Ida is then expected to turn toward the Florida Panhandle.

Here is an image of the Hurricane Ida Path. For more information, visit the National Hurricane Center website.

As Ida is nearing US Gulf Coast, some of the offshore oil and gas rigs were evacuated. Meanwhile, the price of oil has jumped to over $78 a barrel, as Bloomberg reports

Hurricane Ida is moving with maximum sustained winds at 80 mph, NNW 16 mph, and minimum pressure 993 mb.

While it continues to weaken, a Hurricane Warning is in effect from Pascagoula, MS to Indian Pass FL.

My best wishes to those in its path.
